Troubled Horizon & Other Stories is a collection of short stories by Nigerian author, Ann Esievoadje, for young adult readers.

The five stories tell tales of the lives of ordinary people thrown into a frenzy by the loss of a loved one, teen pregnancy, kidnap, miscarriage. What draws you to Esievoadje's storytelling, especially illustrated in Don't Go, is how she writes about a deeply tragic event in a way that the reader understands.

There were parts of the book, however, that read like conversations between Westerners rather than between ordinary Nigerians, due to the choice of words of the characters. Esievoadje could also work on the flow of her narration so that it carries more cadence. It's a 3.5 out of 10 for me.

Favourite quote:

"The bible says life is in the blood. Although his little body was just a blob of blood with indistinct parts, she had loved him fiercely."
